Dagis, Skis, and Ostkiosken

Linnea got to go to Monica's dagis (preschool) with Ebba today. She was really nervous about it until she got there. She did lots of painting, played with 3 or 4 of the little girls, went sliding down the hill outside on mattresses, played with the Pippi house, and generally had a fantastic time.

Meanwhile, Anna-Greta & Eskil took Kevin, Annali, and me to rent some cross-country skis. We drove first over to Stig & Gun's house (Eskil's brother and sister-in-law) to get the ski rack and say hello. Then we drove through the spectacular countryside to the ski store. Once we had finished getting the right size skis, the store employees offered us fika (kind of like British teatime). So we went into their fika room and had some coffee and pepparkakor! Then we drove into Edsbyn (about 10 miles east of Alfta) to see the world's largest chair, skis, and bandy stick.
Bandy is a game very similar to hockey, but it's played with a ball and on a much bigger ice arena. Bollnäs was in the national championship game last year, so it's a pretty big deal in these parts. Then we drove back to Alfta. When we were almost home, we stopped at "Ostkiosken", a roadside homemade cheese stand that is unattended and on the honor system. We bought some really good goat's milk cheese and something called ostkake, which translates to cheesecake but is unlike any cheesecake I've ever had!

This little red building is the "Ostkiosken"

Ostkake - yum!!!
You take your cheese and leave the money in a metal milk jug!

Then we went back to Anna-Greta and Eskil's house. First we visited with the horse in the pasture next door. Annali LOVED looking at and talking to the horse! Then we had some fika & relaxed for a little bit.
When Monica, Ebba, and Linnea got home we had a fabulous dinner. And for dessert? Ostkake served warm with various jams and whipped cream! Delicious!
